Our Experiences
Six paths into Japanese culture

Traditional Confectionery
Japanese Sweets (Wagashi)
和菓子

Craft exquisite nerikiri wagashi — seasonal sculptures of white bean paste and rice dough — guided by a skilled artisan in a private Kyoto machiya. Savour your creations with ceremonial matcha.

Mindfulness & Ritual
Tea Ceremony
茶道

More than tea — a philosophy of presence. A certified tea master leads you through the meditative gestures of chado, revealing the principles of harmony, respect, and tranquillity.

Living Classical Theatre
Noh

Encounter Japan’s oldest performing art — masked characters, ancient chant, and movement so refined it transcends theatre. A Noh master introduces masks, costumes, and the profound philosophy of each gesture.

Comic Classical Theatre
Kyogen
狂言

The joyful counterpart to Noh — comic plays performed with wit, physicality, and stylised speech that have delighted audiences for 700 years. Try the movements and expressions yourself under expert guidance.

Zen Meditation
Zazen
坐禅

Sit in stillness at a private Zen temple with a guiding monk. Learn correct posture, breathing, and the Zen teaching of mushin — empty mind. A practice that clears the noise of modern life and reveals inner clarity.

Japanese Sake Culture
Sake Tasting
利き酒体験

Venture into the refined world of Japanese sake with a private tasting led by a knowledgeable guide. Discover regional styles, brewing philosophy, and how to discern aroma, texture, and terroir — the art of kikizake.

Bespoke Curation
Your experience, entirely yours

Tell us your vision — a preferred venue, a particular art form, a team-building purpose, or simply a desire to go deeper than any standard tour allows. We design every element around you: the instructor, the setting, the pace, the depth.

From intimate gatherings of two to private events for thirty, each experience is conceived from scratch. That is the BASE KYOTO promise.

I attended with my 10-year-old son and we had a great time. We each made our own bracelets, and there was a wide choice of beads and colors.
Then we watched a mini tea ceremony, matcha tea was served cold with ice cubes, the first time I’d drunk it cold at a tea ceremony. The matcha was good and perfect for the summer heat. The bowls were all beautiful. We were also able to learn more about Kyoto’s Gion festival, which was taking place at the time.
My son also really enjoyed the experience.
